Easy Fabric Ponchos

Easy poncho patternFast, fun, and fashionable... add a quick touch of style to your wardrobe with these easy fabric ponchos! Both the rectangle shape and triangle shape are really versatile.

Rectangle Poncho

Materials

  • 1-1/2 yards 54”-wide fabric
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine

Directions

1. Fold fabric in half along the width of fabric, bringing the selvages together to form the short sides of the rectangle. Measure across fold line and cut at 49”. Folded piece will then measure 49” x 27.”

2. On folded edge, center and cut the 12” neck opening (start and stop neck opening 18-1/2” from the sides).

3. Finish neck opening with a rolled edge hem.

4. Finish around entire poncho with rolled edge hem.

5. To form armhole, fold poncho with wrong sides together and measure down sides 10” from fold. Stitch a 5”-long line in from side. Repeat for other side.

Materials

  • 2 yards 45”-wide fabric
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine

Directions

1. Fold fabric in half along the width of fabric, bringing the selvages together to form the short sides of a 45” x 36” rectangle.

2. Measure 22-1/2” across bottom edge (opposite the fold) and mark the center. This will be the bottom of the poncho.

3. Lightly mark a line from each corner of the folded edge to the bottom center mark, forming a triangle. Cut along these lines.

4. On folded edge, center and cut the 12” neck opening (start and stop neck opening 16-1/2” from the sides). Finish neck opening with a rolled edge hem.

5. Finish around entire poncho edge with a rolled edge hem.

6. To form armhole, fold poncho with wrong sides together, and measure down sides 13” from fold. Stitch a 4”-long line in from side. Repeat for other side.

Skill Level: Some sewing experience helpful.
Approximate Crafting Time: 1 hour per poncho.
